Dye record

  1. 01Condition on arrival

A Celine Belt Bag in grey grained leather. Everywhere hands touch it — the top of the handle, the flap edges, around the back zip — it was scratched and had lost colour.

The white scratches on top of the handle are clearly visible. Before · photo 4

  2. 02Target colour

The original grey. The damage was scattered in many places, so the whole bag was dyed instead of spot repairs.

  3. 03Colour mixing & process

    1. Cleaning
    2. Preparing the base
    3. Matching the colour to the original grey
    4. Re-dyeing the whole piece
    5. Finishing

The dye was applied without filling the grain.

  4. 04Result

The white scratches on top of the handle are gone, and the whole bag reads as an even grey. Before · photo 4 / After · photo 4

  5. 05Limits

No particular limits were noted. Any difference the leather keeps is explained before work begins.

  6. 06About these photos

Many of the after photos were taken against a bright wall, a different set from the intake photos, so the lighting differs; the lower part of the fourth after photo is out of focus.

The two photos differ in angle, background or light, so they are shown side by side rather than overlaid.

Leather can only be dyed darker than its current colour.
