Louis Vuitton Neverfull Damier Azur — natural cowhide trim replaced

Louis Vuitton · Leather replacement

These are not dye jobs. Where leather was replaced, the new part can look lighter than before — that is new leather, not leather dyed lighter.

The record

  1. 01Condition on arrival

The cowhide on the handles and the top edge had darkened heavily and was stained

  2. 02Main steps

    1. Cleaning the canvas
    2. removing and replacing the cowhide
    3. stitching on the original seam lines
  3. 03About the work

A Damier Azur Neverfull on a white ground. Unlike the pale canvas, the cowhide on the handles and the top edge had turned dark brown and absorbed stains over years of use, leaving a wide gap in colour between leather and canvas.

The canvas was cleaned with a dedicated cleaner, and the cowhide parts were removed and replaced with new leather. The edge colour and the stitch spacing were matched to the original bag.

The replacement cowhide is a pale, raw colour and will darken a little with use, from sunlight and handling. In the photos, compare the top edge and where the handles attach.
