01Condition on arrival
A Hermès Herbag with a black canvas body and a black leather flap and strap. The canvas had faded to a whitish, dusty-looking black, and the colour had worn off the edges of the shoulder strap, exposing pale cut edges.
The pale cut edges of the strap are visible. Before · photo 3
02Target colour
The original black. The canvas body and the strap were worked on.
03Colour mixing & process
- Cleaning
- Matching the colour separately for canvas and leather
- Dyeing the canvas
- Preparing the strap edges and finishing them in black
- Finishing
Canvas and leather take dye differently, so each colour was mixed separately.
The canvas was dyed without filling its weave; the padlock and the metal fittings were not touched.
