Dye record

Blue (faded in patches) → BlueRestored in the same colour

  1. 01Condition on arrival

A Chanel shopping tote in blue lambskin, smooth at the top with diamond quilting below. The colour had faded in patches and looked blotchy, and the bottom corners and edges were worn and had lost colour.

  2. 02Target colour

The whole bag was re-dyed to match the original blue.

  3. 03Colour mixing & process

    1. Cleaning
    2. Preparing the base
    3. Colour matching
    4. Re-dyeing the whole piece
    5. Finishing

Touching up only parts would have left a visible line between the new colour and the faded areas, so the whole bag was dyed.

The quilted grooves and the smooth upper panels were matched to the same tone; the chain and the CC charm were not touched.

  4. 04Result

From the front and at the bottom corners, the same blue reads evenly. Before · photo 1 / After · photo 6

  5. 05Limits

The colour difference before and after is small; look mainly at the corners and the base edges. After · photo 4

  6. 06About these photos

The before was shot on beige cloth and the after in the workshop, so background and lighting differ.

The same spot, shot from a similar angle. An overlay opens once the two photos have been checked for alignment.

Leather can only be dyed darker than its current colour.
