Dye record

Black (faded at the creases) → BlackRestored in the same colour

  1. 01Condition on arrival

A Prada shoulder bag in soft black nappa with a drawstring and tassels. Every crease had faded to a whitish line, and the glaze on the handle edges had worn.

  2. 02Target colour

The original black. The handle edges were re-glazed.

  3. 03Colour mixing & process

    1. Cleaning
    2. Colour matching
    3. Dyeing black, opening out the creases
    4. Re-glazing the handle edges
    5. Finishing

The leather is heavily creased, so the creases were opened out while dyeing to keep the old colour from staying in the folds.

  4. 04Result

In the same studio, from the same front angle, the whitish creases now read as an even deep black. Before · photo 8 / After · photo 4

  5. 05Limits

The PRADA stamp on the body looks gold in the intake close-up and silvery grey afterwards. The record does not say whether the stamp changed colour or the lighting did. After · photo 7
