Repairs

Prada leather tote — separated buckle straps re-bonded

Prada · Stitching & repairs

These are not dye jobs. Where leather was replaced, the new part can look lighter than before — that is new leather, not leather dyed lighter.

  3. 03About the work

A black calfskin Prada tote with gold buckle details. The belts that pass through the buckles are made of two pieces of leather bonded together, and with constant folding and pulling the two plies had separated and lifted.

Dust and old, hardened glue were cleared from the gap, then a leather adhesive was applied sparingly and the plies pressed and clamped. The edges that had opened were finished so that they stay down.

In the intake photo, a gloved hand holds the gap open. Compare it with the same belt in the after photos.
