Dye record

Light blue-grey → BlackChanged to a darker colour

  1. 01Condition on arrival

A Saint Laurent zip card case in pale blue-grey with chevron quilting (matelassé). Being light, it had absorbed grime and stains, and it came in with a request to make it black.

  2. 02Target colour

Black — a change from a light colour to a darker one.

  3. 03Colour mixing & process

    1. Cleaning
    2. Preparing the base
    3. Dyeing black
    4. Finishing

The black was worked into the stitched grooves of the quilting.

The gold YSL logo and the zip were masked, and the card slot on the back was matched to the same black.

  4. 04Result

The front and the back card slot are black, the gold logo is unchanged, and the chevron quilting lines show. Before · photo 4 / After · photo 1

  5. 05Limits

Depending on the lighting, the colour it came in with (light blue-grey) reads as beige, silver grey or pale sky blue in the photos. Before · photo 2
