Dye record

Black (faded to grey) → BlackRestored in the same colour

  1. 01Condition on arrival

A Hermès Garden Party in black canvas with black leather trim. Sun and rubbing had faded the canvas to a greyish black, and the glaze on the handle edges had worn away, exposing the cut leather.

  2. 02Target colour

The original black. The faded areas of the canvas were dyed, and the handle edges were re-glazed.

  3. 03Colour mixing & process

    1. Cleaning
    2. Colour matching
    3. Dyeing the faded canvas areas
    4. Re-glazing the handle edges
    5. Finishing

The leather trim and the white stitching were kept free of colour.

  4. 04Result

The canvas reads as an even, deeper black, and the white stitching is still white. Before · photo 2 / After · photo 2

The handle edges can be seen in the second, third and sixth after photos. After · photo 3
