Repairs

Louis Vuitton Monogram tote — worn top corners rebuilt

Louis Vuitton · Leather replacement

These are not dye jobs. Where leather was replaced, the new part can look lighter than before — that is new leather, not leather dyed lighter.

The record

  1. 01Condition on arrival

The top corners carrying the ring fittings had worn through and torn, exposing the lining

  2. 02Main steps

    1. Taking apart the damaged areas
    2. cutting and replacing the leather
    3. restitching on the original stitch lines
  3. 03About the work

A Louis Vuitton tote with a Monogram canvas body and brown calfskin side panels. Constant rubbing against hands and clothes had worn through and torn both top corners, where the ring fittings sit, and the lining showed through the gaps.

Only the worn corners were taken apart, not the whole bag. Leather close in colour and weight to the side panels was cut to the shape of the corners and fitted, then hand-stitched back along the original lines and stitch spacing.

The original ring fittings and zip were put back. In the photos, compare the torn top corners with the seams of the side panels.
