Repairs

Chanel Classic Flap, large, navy — worn corner panels replaced

Chanel · Leather replacement

These are not dye jobs. Where leather was replaced, the new part can look lighter than before — that is new leather, not leather dyed lighter.

The record

  1. 01Condition on arrival

The leather at the corners of the flap and the back pocket had worn and cracked

  2. 02Main steps

    1. Separating the damaged panels
    2. cutting navy lambskin
    3. replacing and stitching along the quilting
  3. 03About the work

A navy Chanel Classic Flap, large. Where hands touch it most — the flap corners and the edges of the back pocket — the leather had worn and cracked, and the surface had come away in several places.

The leather itself had worn away, so recolouring could not fix it. Only the damaged panels were separated; navy lambskin close to the original colour was cut and stitched in so that the diamond quilting lines continue.

The chain, the turn-lock and the lining label are the originals. In the photos, compare the flap corners and the places where the quilting lines meet.
