Repairs

Hermès Izmir sandals, brown — H-strap uppers replaced

Hermès · Leather replacement

These are not dye jobs. Where leather was replaced, the new part can look lighter than before — that is new leather, not leather dyed lighter.

  3. 03About the work

Hermès Izmir sandals in brown leather. Both ends of the H-shaped strap over the instep, where they tuck into the sole, had worn and crumbled, the edges frayed and the inner leather exposed.

The straps were taken out of the soles, and the old straps were used as a pattern to cut new leather to the same shape. The inner face that touches the foot and the edges were finished, then the straps were set back between the soles in their original position.

The soles and the footbed leather were left as they were; only the H straps were changed. The first after photo shows the old straps lying under the restored sandals.
