Repairs

Louis Vuitton Monogram sneakers — cracked toe canvas replaced

Louis Vuitton · Leather replacement

These are not dye jobs. Where leather was replaced, the new part can look lighter than before — that is new leather, not leather dyed lighter.

The record

  1. 01Condition on arrival

The Monogram canvas at the toe, where it creases with each step, had cracked and split

  2. 02Main steps

    1. Separating the toe section
    2. cutting Monogram canvas
    3. replacing and stitching
    4. finishing
  3. 03About the work

Louis Vuitton low-top sneakers in Monogram canvas. The toe, which creases with every step, had developed deep folds until the surface cracked and split where it meets the sole.

Once coated canvas cracks, filling or painting it does not hold — it opens up again as it flexes. So the toe section was separated and replaced with new canvas, cut so the Monogram pattern runs the right way. The fabric lying beside the shoes in the intake photo is the Monogram canvas used for the replacement.

The leather inside the shoes and the soles were left as they were; only the toe sections were changed. In the after photos, check how the LV logos and flowers continue across.
