Dye record

Cherry (edges worn through) → CherryRestored in the same colour

  1. 01Condition on arrival

A Valentino Cherry Pick denim wallet, frayed from the edges in. Friction concentrated where the denim body meets the leather trim, so the colour wore off there first and exposed the material beneath.

  2. 02Target colour

A same-colour restoration back to the original cherry of the trim (a red with some pink in it).

  3. 03Colour mixing & process

    1. Levelling the worn spots
    2. Colour matching that allows for the base showing through
    3. Dyeing cherry red
    4. Finishing

The denim and the cherry embroidery were left untouched; only the damaged trim was worked on.

  4. 04Result

Along the corner edges, the worn marks now read as continuous cherry red. Before · photo 6 / After · photo 6

  5. 05Limits

No particular limits were noted. Any difference the leather keeps is explained before work begins.

  6. 06About these photos

The before was shot on a cutting mat and the after on a black desk, so the backgrounds differ.

The two photos differ in angle, background or light, so they are shown side by side rather than overlaid.

Leather can only be dyed darker than its current colour.
