Dye record

Brown (faded and marked in the middle) → Dark brownRestored in the same colour

  1. 01Condition on arrival

A Louis Vuitton tote in black leather with the monogram punched out as perforations. The brown leather handles had lost colour from the middle, where they are held, and were marked by grime and rubbing.

  2. 02Target colour

A same-colour restoration to the original brown. Only the handles were worked on.

  3. 03Colour mixing & process

    1. Cleaning (removing grime)
    2. Colour matching
    3. Dyeing the handles
    4. Finishing

The rolled handles were turned while being dyed so that no side came out darker than the rest. The black body and the cord trim were not touched.

  4. 04Result

In the after photo (a close-up of where the handle joins the bag) the handle reads as an even dark brown. After · photo 2

  5. 05Limits

The before (handles standing, white background) and the after (lying flat in close-up on a concrete floor) are framed differently, so the same spot is hard to compare, and the colour difference is not obvious in the photos. Before · photo 3

  6. 06About these photos
